UB City, Bangalore
The Luxury Block
UB City is a complex of high-rise towers at the corner of Kasturba Road and Vittal Mallya Road, opposite Cubbon Park, with The Collection, its luxury shopping arcade. The area around it, with Lavelle Road, is the city's most expensive block: terrace restaurants, cocktail bars and a rooftop lounge. It is a place for dinner and an evening out, not for sightseeing.

👣 An afternoon into evening
The block is small; the order below fills an afternoon and an evening. Places are in the lists above.
- Start with breakfast or coffee under rain trees
Airlines Hotel, between Lavelle Road and St. Mark's Road, is one of the city's original drive-in cafes: an open-air garden under enormous rain trees, benne masala dosa and filter coffee from early morning.
- The Museum of Art & Photography
MAP, on Kasturba Road across from the Government Museum, is the city's most contemporary museum: five floors of rotating exhibitions of photography, painting and digital art. The building itself is part of the reason to go.
- UB City and The Collection
Global-brand boutiques, an art gallery and restaurants in the towers. Shop details are on the UB City mall page.
- Sunset and dinner
Skyye Lounge is an open-air lounge on the 16th floor above UB City, looking over Cubbon Park. The Biere Club on Vittal Mallya Road, opened in 2010, is South India's first microbrewery. On Lavelle Road: Bar Spirit Forward, on the Asia's 50 Best Bars list, Sunny's for Continental food with a wine cellar, and Matsuri for Japanese.
How it differs from the areas around
Cubbon Park is across the road: come for the morning there and the evening here. MG Road and Brigade Road, to the east, are the cheaper version of a night out, with old pubs instead of hotel-grade rooftops, and Church Street is the street of bookshops and cafes between them. For shopping with bargaining rather than brand windows, go to Commercial Street.
When to come and how to get there
Late afternoon to night: the terraces face the green of Cubbon Park and the city lights, so sunset is the hour to aim for. The driest, most comfortable months are November to February; September and October bring heavy showers, which matter for open-air terraces. The nearest metro is Cubbon Park on the Purple Line, about ten minutes on foot. Nobody stays in the block itself, but the five-star hotels next door do; see where to stay in Bangalore. For the way back at night, official advice is an app or prepaid taxi (is Bangalore safe).
