UB City, Bangalore: the city's luxury mall
UB City is a luxury complex on Vittal Mallya Road in central Bengaluru, opposite Cubbon Park. Its mall, The Collection, holds international labels such as Louis Vuitton and Burberry, and around it sit premium restaurants, rooftop lounges and an art gallery. There is no ticket to walk in; most people come to eat rather than shop.

What UB City is
UB stands for United Breweries, the group that built the complex in a joint venture with the Prestige Group. Construction began in 2004 and finished in 2008, on 13 acres at the corner of Kasturba Road and Vittal Mallya Road. The whole development covers about 1.6 million square feet across several blocks: UB Tower, Kingfisher Plaza, Concorde, Canberra and Comet. The UB Tower is 123 metres high, with 20 floors and a rooftop helipad.
For a visitor it is the place to see "glamorous" Bengaluru. The luxury retail is in The Collection, the mall part of the complex.
What to do there
- Eat. This is the main reason most people come. UB City is a cluster of premium restaurants, rooftop lounges and cocktail bars rather than a food court. Expect Bengaluru prices at their highest, and a dress code at some doors.
- Shop or window-shop. Brands listed on the official site include Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Jimmy Choo, Canali, Omega, Salvatore Ferragamo, Emporio Armani, Coach and TUMI.
- Art. Sublime Galleria, the art gallery inside the complex, is worth a look between meals.
- Events. The complex hosts events such as Art Bengaluru, Fit Bengaluru, Midnight Madness and Trousseau Week.
A walk through is quick; a meal takes longer. The courtyard is most pleasant in the evening, when the restaurants fill up and the lights come on.
