JP Nagar, Bangalore

Cafes & Parks

← Bengaluru

JP Nagar, named after Jayaprakash Narayan, is the leafy residential south of Bangalore: tree-covered streets, the walk around Sarakki Lake, coffee shops and Iyengar bakeries. Nothing here is on a sightseeing checklist, and that is its appeal: it shows how the city lives when it is not working, and it suits a longer, quieter stay.

JP Nagar or a neighbouring district?

JP Nagar is sometimes described as where Koramangala moves when it grows up: the same coffee culture, fewer taprooms and earlier nights, with cafes and family restaurants running till ten or eleven. Next door, Jayanagar has the 4th Block market and the evening food street, and Basavanagudi further north has the old temples. For a night out, Koramangala 5th Block is the nearest bar cluster.

Jayaprakash Nagar station on the Green Line connects the district to the centre. Bangalore is mild all year and driest from November to February; September and October bring heavy showers. For long stays JP Nagar is a calm base; compare areas on where to stay in Bangalore and coffee across the city on cafes in Bangalore.
