Munnar

Munnar trip cost

← Munnar

In Munnar the biggest cost is not the tickets but the distances. The sights lie far apart along hill roads, so a car for the day at about ₹1,500–3,000 usually outweighs every entry fee combined; the bus up from Kochi costs about ₹130–190. Main entry tickets are in the list above; below are transport, treks, jeeps and food. All figures are approximate; check the rate when you pay.

Food and stays

Rooms run from hostel dorms at about ₹600–900 a night to five-star retreats from about ₹8,000; compare on budget hotels and luxury hotels.

How not to overpay

Small decisions that change the total.

  • Agree the day's route at the start — Car and rickshaw prices are per day; say at the start which viewpoints you want and that you will stop at them.
  • Group the sights by road — Mattupetty, Echo Point, Kundala and Top Station line up on one road and fit into one morning, which saves a second day of hire.
  • Buy tea from the producer — Bazaar prices are low but quality varies; KDHP's own counters sell estate tea with its origin on the label.
