Top Station
A cliff edge on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border at around 1,700 m, roughly 32 km from town, where the tea country simply stops and the Theni plains open thousands of feet below, on a clear morning as far as the Vaigai dam. This was the upper terminal of the Kundala Valley Railway and of an aerial ropeway that lowered tea 5 km down to Kurangani, until the Great Flood of 1924 wrecked the system. Come before 7 AM, because by late morning the mist usually takes the view. There is a small entry fee, the surrounding slopes are neelakurinji country, and the drive past Mattupetty and Kundala earns the early start on its own.
The widest view in Munnar, and the old railhead where tea once went down by ropeway
