Where to stay in Pune

← Pune

For a first visit, the best areas to stay in Pune are Koregaon Park, for cafés, gardens and the Osho resort, and Camp near the railway station, for the classic central hotels. FC Road and Deccan are the midrange option on the metro. The old city is better walked than slept in. Pune is spread out, and the Hinjewadi IT parks are a long drive from the old city, so choose the area first and the hotel second. The stays in the list above are grouped by area below.

Koregaon Park: cafés, gardens and the Osho resort

Leafy lanes of villas, cafés and restaurants, the Osho meditation resort behind its bamboo walls and the free Osho Teerth garden. It costs more than other areas, and travellers, remote workers and expats choose it for the atmosphere. Stays here: the O Hotel, a design boutique with a rooftop pool; Sunderban Resort & Spa, an Art Deco heritage property steps from the Osho campus; the guesthouse of the OSHO International Meditation Resort; and The Westin on the area's edge. The Conrad stands on Mangaldas Road nearby. The closest metro stations, Ruby Hall Clinic and Kalyani Nagar, are a rickshaw ride away.

Camp and the railway station: the classic centre

The old cantonment, with colonial façades on MG Road, Parsi-Irani cafés and markets, is where the classic central hotels are and where much is walkable. Lemon Tree Premier, City Center is on Connaught Road, about five minutes from Pune railway station, which makes it practical for a first night or an early train.

FC Road and Deccan: the student mile

The area around Fergusson College has old Irani cafés, vada pav stalls, bookshops and a handy spread of midrange stays, with the metro at Deccan Gymkhana. A good base if you want the old city and the cafés within reach without Koregaon Park prices.

Old city: visit, don't sleep

Shaniwar Wada, Dagdusheth Ganpati and the peth bazaars are the reason to come, but it is easier to stay in Camp or near FC Road and come here for morning walks; the bazaars go quiet by about nine at night.

Near the airport: Viman Nagar and Kalyani Nagar

Zostel Pune in Viman Nagar is a sociable backpacker hostel about a kilometre from the airport, good for a first or last night; the common areas can be loud. Hyatt Regency Pune in Kalyani Nagar is a calm business hotel of about 200 rooms, close to both the airport and Koregaon Park.

Senapati Bapat Road and the golf course: big-hotel luxury

JW Marriott on Senapati Bapat Road is a long-standing social anchor with a rooftop scene, a spa and several restaurants, placed for shopping and nightlife. The Ritz-Carlton overlooks a golf course and the city skyline, with an art collection and an outdoor pool. More on luxury hotels in Pune.

Aundh, Baner and Hinjewadi: the IT west

Aundh and Baner are modern, organised neighbourhoods with malls and restaurants, suited to serviced flats and longer stays; the metro does not reach them. Vivanta Pune, Hinjawadi, a Taj-group hotel, sits among the tech parks further west: convenient for work, but the old city is a long drive.

Stays outside the city

Three of the stays in the list are destinations in themselves, not bases for sightseeing in Pune.

  • Fort JadhavGADH, about 25 km out near Saswad, is a Maratha hill fort built in 1710 and converted into a heritage hotel, with rooms and tents inside the ramparts, Maharashtrian food, and archery, pottery and fort walks.
  • SaffronStays Satori is an eight-acre estate of cottages above Mulshi Lake, each with a verandah and infinity pool; you can book one cottage or the whole estate.
  • The Hosteller Panshet, 40–45 km out on the Mutha River near Panshet Dam, is a small adults-only backpacker hostel with an outdoor café and bonfire evenings.

Before you book: distances

Pune Airport at Lohegaon is about 10 km from Koregaon Park, roughly 30–45 minutes by cab, longer at rush hour. Trains from Mumbai arrive at Pune Junction, close to Camp and on the Aqua metro line. The metro covers the old city, Deccan and the station, but not Koregaon Park's lanes, Aundh, Baner or Hinjewadi; for those, plan on cabs. See Pune Metro and getting around Pune.
