Pune Metro: lines, stations, timings and tickets

← Pune

Pune Metro has two lines that cross at District Court: the Purple Line from PCMC in Pimpri-Chinchwad south to Swargate, and the Aqua Line from Vanaz in the west to Ramwadi in the east, about 33 km in all. Trains run from 6:00 to 23:00, and a ride costs roughly ₹10–35. The network is young: it serves the old city, Deccan and the railway station well, but it does not reach the airport, Koregaon Park's lanes or the Hinjewadi IT parks, whose separate Line 3 was not yet carrying passengers at the last check.

Pune Metro: two lines

Purple runs PCMC to Swargate, Aqua crosses it from Vanaz to Ramwadi. The network is young and does not reach everywhere, but where it does it beats the traffic outright.

~₹10–35

The two lines and their stations

Purple Line (Line 1), north to south: PCMC, Sant Tukaram Nagar, Nashik Phata (Bhosari), Kasarwadi, Phugewadi, Dapodi, Bopodi, Khadki, Shivaji Nagar, District Court, Kasba Peth, Mahatma Phule Mandai, Swargate. It runs on an elevated viaduct from Pimpri-Chinchwad and goes underground into the old city: Shivaji Nagar, District Court, Kasba Peth, Mahatma Phule Mandai and Swargate are the five underground stations.

Aqua Line (Line 2), west to east: Vanaz, Anand Nagar, Paud Phata, SNDT College, Garware College, Deccan Gymkhana, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan, PMC, District Court, RTO Pune, Pune Railway Station, Ruby Hall Clinic, Bund Garden, Yerwada, Kalyani Nagar, Ramwadi. It is elevated throughout, and part of it runs along the Mutha river.

Changing lines: District Court (also called Civil Court) is the only interchange. Line 3 (the Pink Line), built separately by the regional authority PMRDA, will run from Hinjewadi to District Court; it opens in stages, so check its status before planning around it.

Which station for what

The stations most useful on a visit, and the areas the metro does not reach.

Old city: Kasba Peth and Mahatma Phule Mandai (Purple)

FC Road and Deccan: Deccan Gymkhana (Aqua)

For the student quarter around Fergusson College, its cafés, vada pav stalls and pavement bookstalls.

Trains: Pune Railway Station (Aqua)

The metro station serves Pune Junction, where trains from Mumbai arrive. See Pune railway station.

Koregaon Park: Ruby Hall Clinic or Kalyani Nagar (Aqua), then a rickshaw

Neither station is inside Koregaon Park; the last stretch to the Osho resort and the café lanes is by auto-rickshaw or cab.

Not on the metro: the airport, Camp, Aundh and Baner, Hinjewadi

Pune Airport at Lohegaon, about 10 km from the centre, has no metro station; a cab takes roughly 30–45 minutes to Koregaon Park, longer at rush hour. Camp is a rickshaw ride from the centre, Aundh and Baner are served by taxi and bus, and Hinjewadi waits for Line 3. See getting around Pune and Pune airport.

Timings, frequency and fares

Figures from Maha Metro and the encyclopedia; the exact fare for any pair of stations is in the fare chart on the official site and in the app.

HoursAbout 6:00 to 23:00 every day. The metro does not run 24 hours.
FrequencyRoughly every 6–10 minutes, more often in the morning and evening peaks.
FaresAbout ₹10–35 a trip, by distance; the full Purple Line, PCMC to Swargate, is about ₹30.

How to buy a ticket

Maha Metro sells tickets several ways; for a visitor the app or WhatsApp is usually quickest.

  1. Pune Metro app

The official app (Android and iOS) sells e-tickets and plans the route.

  2. WhatsApp

Send "Hi" to the WhatsApp number shown on punemetrorail.org to book an e-ticket in the chat.

  3. Online or at the station

Tickets can also be bought on the official site or at the station counter.

  4. One Pune card, for long stays

A prepaid NCMC RuPay card with a discount on every ride. It is issued at station counters for about ₹100, with top-ups from ₹50, and is activated with a one-time code sent to your mobile number, so it suits people staying a while.

On board

Maha Metro's commuter guide asks passengers to let people off before boarding, keep bags out of the way, give reserved seats to elderly, women and disabled passengers, and not share a token or card. Spitting is an offence, and there is an official list of articles you may not carry; check it if you travel with tools or anything sharp.
