Best time to visit Hyderabad

← Hyderabad

The best time to visit Hyderabad is November to February: dry weather, days of about 29–32 °C and cool nights. April to June is the season to avoid, with average highs near 40 °C in May and spells of 44–45 °C. The monsoon months, July to October, are rated good: cooler, but with sudden cloudbursts. Several of the city's biggest festivals fall then, so the month you choose also decides what you see.

Best timeNov–Feb

Deccan: dry mild winter; 40°C+ Apr–Jun

44–45°C heat Apr–Jun; cloudbursts Jul–Oct

The short answer, season by season

November to February is the season the India GO guide rates best. It hardly rains (about one rainy day a month, none on average in December), days run 29–32 °C and nights drop to about 15–18 °C; December is the coolest month. Hyderabad stands on the Deccan plateau at about 530 m, and its winter is dry and mild.

March is still good but warming fast, to about 36 °C by day. April to June is the stretch to avoid: May averages 40 °C by day and 27 °C at night, and heat waves reach 44–45 °C. If these are your dates, keep sightseeing for early morning and evening.

July to October is the monsoon, rated good. Days cool to 30–32 °C, and rain falls on 6–11 days a month; August is the wettest, at about 200 mm. The rain often comes as cloudbursts that flood streets quickly, so leave slack before trains and flights.

Temperature and rain for each month are on the Hyderabad weather pages, for example May or December.

The city's calendar through the year

The big Hyderabad festivals cluster in the monsoon and just after it. Dates below come from the festival calendar.

January to mid-February: Numaish

The All India Industrial Exhibition has filled the Nampally grounds every year since 1938, from the start of January to mid-February: some two thousand stalls of handloom, crafts, dry fruits and gadgets, with rides and snack stands, from late afternoon into the night. Weekday evenings are walkable, weekends packed. Numaish

Ramzan: the haleem month

Haleem, the city's Ramzan dish, is what restaurants cook this month, and the Old City markets around Charminar run latest in its final nights. Ramzan moves about eleven days earlier each year and ends with Eid al-Fitr: 10 March 2027. Eid al-Fitr

July–August: Bonalu

Through the month of Ashada the goddess is fed temple by temple across the city: Golconda first, then the big Sunday at the Ujjaini Mahankali temple in Secunderabad, then the Old City at Lal Darwaza a week later. Season: 8 July – 1 August 2027 (expected). Demand for rooms concentrates on the two festival Sundays.

August–September: Ganesh Chaturthi

Ten days that build to one: the towering Khairatabad Ganesh is carried about 2 km to Hussain Sagar and lowered in by crane, while processions from across the city queue along the lake. Dates: 4–14 September 2027 (expected). Book rooms three to four weeks ahead, ideally within walking distance of the lake. Ganesh Chaturthi

September–October: Bathukamma

For nine evenings Telangana's women stack seasonal flowers into cones, circle them singing and float them on water; on the last evening, Saddula Bathukamma, the city brings them to Tank Bund and Hussain Sagar. Dates: 10–18 October 2026. It falls in the Navratri and Dussehra travel window, when trains and flights across India are hardest to get.

December: the crafts fairs

Shilparamam, the state crafts village at Madhapur, holds the All India Crafts Mela in December, and its fairs around Sankranti and the year's end are the fullest. Shilparamam

When to go for what

Some plans depend on the month more than others.

Birds on the lakes: November to March

Flamingos, pelicans and painted storks come to Ameenpur Lake in these months; go at dawn. More in birds of Hyderabad.

Ananthagiri Hills: September to December

The nearest real forest, about 80 km west, is at its best straight after the monsoon, deep green with misty mornings. Ananthagiri Hills

Wildlife in the grassland: winter mornings

At Mahavir Harina Vanasthali, winter mornings give the clearest sightings of blackbuck and spotted deer.
