Animals in bangalore

← Bengaluru

🐒 Grey slender loris

In Kannada it is kaadu paapa, 'forest baby'. A citizen-science project run out of the Indian Institute of Science has been mapping the city's lorises since the 2010s; some Bengaluru residents still treat the animal as an ill omen, which is itself a conservation problem. The lorises still live in the city's older tree patches.

🐒 Bonnet macaque

Troops at viewpoints have learned that plastic bags mean food, which is why forest staff ask visitors not to feed them: fed troops become bolder and are then removed.

Macaca radiata

🐒 Bengal monitor lizard

The name udumbu attaches to the old stories of forts climbed by rope tied to a monitor lizard: a legend, not a technique, but one every fort guide in the Deccan tells.
