← Vrindavan

Vrindavan's year is set by two calendars, the weather and the festivals, and the best trips line them up. October to March is the comfortable season: warm days, cold nights from December, almost no rain. April to June is fiercely hot, peaking at 42 °C in May, and July to September brings the monsoon. Below is what each season feels like in the temple lanes; for today's forecast, use the IMD link at the end.

What each season feels like

October–March, the comfortable season. October is still warm (35 °C by day), November settles at 30 °C, and from December to February days of 21–26 °C meet cold nights of 8–12 °C. In January, morning aarti (the lamp ceremony) in an open courtyard calls for a shawl. By March it is 32 °C and dry again.

April–June, the heat. Days of 40 °C in April and June and 42 °C in May, with nights of 23 °C in April and 27–28 °C in May and June. The marble at Prem Mandir heats up fast: visit temples early or after sunset.

July–September, the monsoon. On IMD's normal dates the monsoon covers this part of Uttar Pradesh around 27 June (Agra, the nearest city in IMD's table) and leaves around 28 September. July and August bring 170–213 mm a month over nine or ten days, and the air is thick and warm, 35–37 °C by day. In 2023 the monsoon brought floods.

Festivals and the weather they fall in

The big festivals bring Vrindavan's largest crowds, whatever the sky is doing. All dates: [Vrindavan festivals](/en/vrindavan/festivals/).

Holi season: late February–March

The Braj Holi moves town by town, from the [Lathmar Holi](/en/festivals/lathmar-holi-barsana/vrindavan/) of Barsana and Nandgaon to Holi itself on the Phalguna full moon (3–4 March in 2026, 22–23 March in 2027). Spring weather: 26–32 °C, dry.

Jhulan Yatra: August

The days when the temples set their deities on flower-hung swings (23–28 August in 2026; expected 12–17 August in 2027). Peak monsoon: humid, warm, rain likely.

Janmashtami: August–September

Krishna's birthday, the most crowded night of the year (4–5 September in 2026, 25–26 August in 2027). Monsoon weather, around 35 °C by day. [Janmashtami in Vrindavan](/en/festivals/janmashtami/vrindavan/)

Kartik month: October–November

A month of lamps and early-morning devotion (27 October–24 November in 2026). The weather is at its best: 30–35 °C by day, cool evenings, no rain. [Kartik in Vrindavan](/en/festivals/kartik-month/vrindavan/)

Crowds at festivals

On Holi and Janmashtami the main temples, Banke Bihari above all, are packed far beyond their lanes, and there is a real risk of crushes. Go early, keep children close, keep valuables zipped away, and step back from the narrowest lanes when the push starts. The monkeys are a year-round hazard: they are known for snatching glasses.

Best time to visit Vrindavan

October, November, February and March are the best months: dry, warm and bright. December and January are good if you pack for cold mornings. Avoid May and June. The monsoon months suit people coming for Jhulan Yatra or Janmashtami; for a first quiet visit, the Kartik month in October–November combines the best weather with one of the most devotional times of the year.
