Kartik Month in Vrindavan
A month of evening lamps for Damodara
Through Kartik, Vrindavan keeps two rhythms: a dawn walk around the town on the parikrama path, and lamps offered every evening to Damodara, the child Krishna, in temples and on the Yamuna.
Where to watch
ISKCON Krishna-Balaram temple, Raman Reti: the evening lamp offering to Damodara every night of the month, with the Damodarashtakam sung and the courtyard full of small lamps. Open to all; shoes off at the entrance.
Radha Damodar temple: the temple of Damodara himself, founded by Jiva Goswami in 1542. In the old town, by Seva Kunj.
Keshi Ghat: the evening Yamuna aarti and lamps set on the river. On the Yamuna, on the parikrama path.
The parikrama path: about 10 km around the old town, walked by pilgrims before dawn, most crowded on Ekadashi days.
