Ooty & Coonoor

How to get around ooty

← Ooty & Coonoor

Ooty to Coonoor by bus

The two towns are 18 km apart and TNSTC runs the link every 10 to 20 minutes, so staying in one and visiting the other needs no planning at all.

~₹15–30

A car for the day

Doddabetta, the tea estates and Pykara sit in different directions with nothing in between; one driver for the day is how the viewpoints are usually strung together.

~₹1,850–2,500 per day

Auto-rickshaw to Doddabetta

Agree that the driver waits at the top: at the peak there is nothing to flag down, and the walk back down is long.

~₹600–800 return from Charring Cross

Mountain shuttles Coonoor to Ooty

Three or four services a day cover the upper 18 km. Slower than the bus and worth it for the ride itself, not for getting somewhere.

~₹160 in second class

Scooter rental

There are few rental places, and the hairpins turn slippery in the fog and drizzle that hang over these hills most of the year.

~₹500–800 per day

In season the mountain train sells out weeks ahead, and fog with drizzle is the normal weather here year round.
