Ooty & Coonoor

Lovedale Railway Station

← Ooty & Coonoor

AreaLovedale, 7 km south of Ooty

A single small platform from 1907 on the UNESCO-listed mountain line, seven kilometres south of Ooty, wrapped in eucalyptus and a morning mist that seems never to fully lift. The blue heritage building, the trilingual Lovedale signboard and the slanted platform benches have made it the most photographed halt on the railway, and film crews find it for the same reasons. Most passengers stay in their seats and go straight past. Dawn is when the mist is worth the trip; otherwise step off here on the Ooty-Coonoor run. Free to wander, trains permitting.
