Getting around: approximate fares

Most people book cabs, bike taxis and autos through Uber, Ola or Rapido, so the price is fixed before you get in. More in getting around Hyderabad.

MetroThe fare depends on distance and stays below ₹100 for any trip. A smart card costs ₹100 and takes 10% off every ride.
App cabFrom about ₹100 across the centre. A pickup surcharge of about ₹20 is standard, not a scam. Rapido is normally the cheapest app.
Auto-rickshawFrom about ₹20 plus about ₹11–17 per km. The meter tariff exists on paper; booked through an app, the price is agreed in advance.
MMTS suburban trainAbout ₹5–11, on the Secunderabad–Lingampally and Falaknuma lines. Trains are less frequent than the metro.
City bus (TGSRTC)From about ₹10. The network is dense, but route boards are often in Telugu.
Airport to the cityPushpak air-conditioned coaches cost about ₹100–300 depending on the route (fares are revised from time to time) and run through the night; an Uber, Ola or Rapido cab costs about ₹600–900, close to the taxi counter. The airport is about 30 km south, and the metro does not reach it. See Hyderabad airport.

Trains and buses to other cities

Approximate fares on the main routes. Check which of the three stations (Secunderabad, Hyderabad Deccan at Nampally, Kacheguda) is on your ticket.

Bengaluru by Vande Bharat

About ₹1,300–1,600 in the chair car, from Kacheguda, about 8 hours.

Bengaluru by overnight bus

About ₹456–1,544 on TGSRTC Garuda Plus and private sleepers. With hundreds of departures a night, a seat usually turns up on the day.

Mumbai by night express

From about ₹435 in sleeper class, about ₹1,600 in 2A (two-tier air-conditioned).

Food, parks and shopping

Food. Irani chai with an Osmania biscuit costs pocket change. Most of the famous food (the biryani houses, Old City breakfast, tiffin halls) sits in the middle ₹₹ band; street griddles such as Ram ki Bandi and Govind Dosa are ₹, and only the fine-dining rooms reach ₹₹₹. See where to eat in Hyderabad.

Parks. The Botanical Garden at Kondapur charges about ₹50 for adults and ₹20 for children. Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park costs about ₹40, and the safari van about ₹140 more.

Shopping. Books at the Abids Sunday market start from about ₹10. A dozen simple lac bangles in Laad Bazaar cost very little, while bridal sets cost far more. A simple pearl strand can be a few hundred rupees; fine matched necklaces run into tens of thousands. More in markets in Hyderabad.

For foreign citizens: separate ticket prices

At the protected monuments and big museums the fee for foreign citizens is much higher than for Indian citizens: at Charminar and Golconda Fort it is about ₹300 against about ₹25. The table above shows both rates for each place.

Ways to spend less

Small habits add up over a few days.

  • Mix in free sights — The Old City bazaars, Durgam Cheruvu, Paigah Tombs, Toli Masjid and Khajaguda Hills cost nothing. See free places to visit in Hyderabad.
  • Get the metro card — It pays for itself quickly and skips the ticket queue at rush hour.
  • Take the airport bus — Pushpak coaches cost a fraction of a cab and run through the night, every 15 minutes to Gachibowli.
  • Book autos in the app — It saves the haggling over the meter and fixes the fare before the ride.
