Hyderabad Metro: the map in words, tickets and timings

← Hyderabad

Hyderabad Metro is three elevated lines, Red, Blue and Green, with 57 stations over about 69 km. Trains run from 6:00 until about 23:00, and a ride costs roughly ₹11–69 depending on distance. It is the easiest way past the traffic between Secunderabad, Ameerpet and HITEC City, but it does not reach the airport, Charminar or Golconda.

Hyderabad Metro: three lines

Sixty-nine kilometres over Red, Blue and Green, running 6:00 to 23:00. Blue is the way past the HITEC City and Gachibowli jams; Green ends at MGBS, the closest the network gets to the old city.

~₹10–60

The map in words: three lines, three interchanges

All three lines are elevated, and every train has three air-conditioned coaches. The lines meet at three interchanges, so any trip needs at most one change.

Red Line: Miyapur – LB Nagar

The longest line, 27 stations from the north-west suburbs (Miyapur, Kukatpally) through Ameerpet, Punjagutta, Khairatabad, Lakdi-ka-pul, Assembly and Nampally to MG Bus Station, then south-east via Malakpet and Dilsukhnagar to LB Nagar.

Blue Line: Nagole – Raidurg

23 stations east to west: Nagole and Uppal, Tarnaka, Secunderabad East, Parade Ground, Paradise, Begumpet, Ameerpet, then Jubilee Hills Check Post, Madhapur, Durgam Cheruvu and HITEC City to the terminus at Raidurg. This is the line for the IT district.

Green Line: JBS Parade Ground – MG Bus Station

The short line, 10 stations from the JBS bus station in Secunderabad via Secunderabad West, Musheerabad, RTC X Roads, Narayanaguda and Sultan Bazaar to MG Bus Station, the closest the network gets to the Old City.

Where to change

Ameerpet: Red and Blue. MG Bus Station: Red and Green. Parade Ground: Green and Blue (the operator names JBS Parade Ground, the Green Line terminus next to it, as the interchange).

Tickets and fares

Fares go by distance in ten zones, roughly ₹11 for up to 2 km and ₹69 for anything over 24 km; the fare calculator on the operator's site gives the exact price between two stations. The same fare applies on every kind of ticket.

  • Paper QR ticket or token — Bought at the counter on the concourse level, for one journey between the two stations on it. Cash, cards and UPI are accepted.
  • Digital QR ticket — From PhonePe, Paytm, Rapido, the T-Savaari app or the metro's WhatsApp line; return tickets are sold only this way.
  • Smart card — About ₹100 at any counter, non-refundable, then topped up at stations or online. One card per person: it cannot be shared.
  • Mind the clock — Tickets are valid only on the day of purchase. Once you buy, you have about 30 minutes to get onto the platform and 90 minutes to leave the system, or an overstay penalty applies.
  • Children — One child under 90 cm travels free with each adult.

Timings and station rules

Hours: first trains at 6:00 every day; the last trains leave the terminals at 23:00 on the Red and Blue lines and at 23:35 on the Green Line. The metro does not run at night because the track is maintained then.

At the entrance: every station has a security check with a metal detector and a baggage scanner before the ticket gates. Inflammables, sharp objects and pets are not allowed; there is no limit on ordinary luggage, and a folding bicycle is allowed outside peak hours.

On board: 21 seats in half of the first or last coach are reserved for women, and 14 seats in the middle coach for senior citizens. Announcements are in English, Telugu, Urdu and Hindi. Eating, drinking and sitting on the floor are penalised.

Where the metro stops short

The airport, the Old City around Charminar and Golconda all need a road leg. From the airport, Pushpak air-conditioned buses or an app cab cover the roughly 30 km; for Charminar, ride to MG Bus Station and take an auto. For the last stretch the operator lists Rapido, Ola and Uber as partners, plus feeder buses and autos at some stations. The getting around Hyderabad page compares the other options, and the airport page covers the transfer.
