Chandigarh

Chandigarh for remote workers

← Chandigarh

Chandigarh is a calm, compact city for a working stay. Our list has no coworking spaces, but it marks three cafes as laptop-friendly: Beige Cafe in Sector 7-C, Turger Burger in Sector 10-C and DoubleShot Coffee Roasters in Mohali. Sectors 17 and 22 are the easiest base, and October to March the most comfortable season.

Beige CafeThe tricity's most reliable specialty-coffee-and-bakery room, calm enough to actually work in.
DoubleShot Coffee RoastersOne of Mohali's most credible from-scratch specialty roasters for genuine coffee people.
Turger BurgerA theatrical, green, air-conditioned burger-and-boba escape that's also work-friendly.

Cafes to work from

The three places in the list above that we mark as laptop-friendly.

Beige Cafe, Sector 7-C

A calm specialty-coffee room with its own bakery, sourdough and croissants baked in small daily batches, and a brunch menu. The default in the sector for laptop mornings.

Turger Burger, Sector 10-C

A forest-themed burger and bubble-tea cafe opposite the Art Gallery, air-conditioned and with wifi; good specialty coffee. Best in winter: the water features bring mosquitoes in summer.

DoubleShot Coffee Roasters, Mohali

A roaster in Sector 78 of Mohali that roasts and brews in-house; small and tidy, better for a short work session than a full day.

Where to base yourself

For a longer stay, Sectors 17 and 22 are the most practical base: the main hotel area, with the plaza, markets and cafes within walking distance. The cafe strip of Sectors 7 to 10 is close by. Each sector was designed to be walked end to end, with its own market, but between sectors you will need a car, so it pays to live near where you work. More: where to stay in Chandigarh.

Practical points

What to know before settling in for a few weeks.

  • Getting around — Uber, Ola and Rapido are the default. CTU buses (approximately ₹20–50) run from about 06:00 to 22:00, and after that there is no public transport, so plan late evenings around a cab. The city has separated cycle tracks and a Smart Bike sharing scheme. Getting around
  • Language — Hindi and Punjabi are spoken; English is enough in tourist places.
  • Season — October to March is comfortable. In May and June the average daily maximum is 38–39 °C, and July and August are the wettest months, with about 270 mm of rain each. December and January bring fog. Weather
  • SIM and visa — A local SIM or eSIM makes the ride apps and payments easier: see SIM and eSIM in India. Visa rules: visa for India.
  • A break from the desk — Sukhna Lake has about 5 km of level walking and cycling paths, and Leisure Valley runs about 8 km of parkland through the city. Parks in Chandigarh
