Agra to Vrindavan: by taxi or by train via Mathura
~1.5–2 h
Vrindavan has no railway station, so there are two ways from Agra. A taxi or Uber Intercity covers the roughly 70 km in 1.5–2 hours for ~₹1,200–1,800 (approx., August 2026). The cheaper way is a train to Mathura Junction, about 35–60 minutes from ~₹90, then a shared auto or e-rickshaw for the last 12 km at ₹20–30 a seat.

A taxi or Uber Intercity from Agra to Vrindavan costs ~₹1,200–1,800 and takes 1.5–2 hours for about 70 km (prices checked in August 2026). It is the easiest option with luggage or a family.
One catch: the car only gets you to the outer ring of the town. The centre is closed to cars, and at weekends and on festivals the town seizes up and cars are turned back. From the car park you continue by e-rickshaw or on foot.
👣 By train via Mathura
The budget route, in two legs:
- Agra to Mathura Junction
Dozens of expresses a day on the Delhi–Mumbai main line run from Agra Cantt to Mathura Junction, most in about 35–60 minutes (NTES, October 2026), from ~₹90 (August 2026). Not every fast train stops: the Gatimaan Express and the Agra–Delhi Vande Bharats run through.
- Mathura to Vrindavan
From the Vrindavan stand, shared autos and e-rickshaws leave all day: 12 km, 20–30 minutes, ₹20–30 a seat or ~₹150–200 for the whole vehicle. A taxi is ~₹300–450, a local bus ~₹10–20 (all approx., August 2026).
There is no train to Vrindavan
The old metre-gauge branch from Mathura was lifted in 2023, and in June 2025 the railway ministry cancelled the Mathura–Vrindavan line project outright. Every rail route ends at Mathura Junction. Anyone selling you a train ticket "to Vrindavan" is selling you something else.
✅ Good to know on arrival
- Festival peaks. Janmashtami (next on 25 August 2027), Holi (22–23 March 2027), Radhashtami and Jhulan: rickshaw fares rise one and a half to two times and the lanes fill from dawn.
- Monkeys. On the open lanes they take glasses and phones straight out of hands. Glasses in a pocket, phone away.
- Name the district, not the temple. At Mathura station rickshaw drivers quote newcomers two or three times the fare, and the word "temple" tells them you are new.
- Going on. For Govardhan, see Vrindavan to Govardhan; for Mathura alone, Agra to Mathura.
