Luxury and 5 star hotels in Hyderabad
Hyderabad's luxury hotels sit in three parts of the city, and the choice is mostly about where your days will be. Taj Falaknuma Palace is a former Nizam's palace above the Old City; Park Hyatt and Taj Krishna are in Banjara Hills, among the best restaurants; ITC Kohenur rises over Durgam Cheruvu lake in HITEC City, next to the tech parks.

Four luxury hotels, four different stays
All four are five-star; they differ in what you get around the room.
Taj Falaknuma Palace: living in history
Built between 1884 and 1893 on a hill above the Old City for Viqar-ul-Umra, prime minister of Hyderabad, and handed over to the sixth Nizam in the 1890s, the palace is laid out in the shape of a scorpion and finished in Italian marble. It opened as a Taj hotel in 2010. Inside are Venetian chandeliers, a dining hall seating 101 and a walnut-ceilinged library modelled on the one at Windsor Castle. It is the choice for a stay that is itself the reason for the trip; the rest of the city is a drive away. More on the Falaknuma Palace page.
Park Hyatt Hyderabad: art and Banjara Hills
The first urban Park Hyatt in India, designed by the architect John Portman, with a serious art collection through its public spaces, a large spa and strong restaurants. Its address on Road No. 2 is among the city's best dining, which makes it the most convenient top-tier base for exploring.
Taj Krishna: the classic
For decades the established five-star of Banjara Hills: 248 rooms and suites on thirteen acres of gardens, Nizami-inflected interiors, a spa and the Firdaus restaurant for Hyderabadi and North-West Frontier cooking. More classical than the design hotels, and a central choice for travellers who value polish over novelty.
ITC Kohenur: the lake and the tech belt
ITC's Luxury Collection hotel stands over Durgam Cheruvu in HITEC City, with about 60% of its rooms and suites facing the lake. It has five restaurants, a spa and an outdoor pool, and is certified LEED Platinum and GRIHA five-star for its green building. The choice if your plans are in the tech districts.
Which area to choose
Banjara Hills is the central choice: the best restaurants are around you and the Old City is a manageable drive. HITEC City suits business trips and puts you next to the lake, the tech parks and the metro's Blue Line. Falaknuma is in the Old City, far from the western districts. The airport at Shamshabad is about 30 km south of the city, 45 to 75 minutes by road, with no metro connection. More on districts in where to stay in Hyderabad.
Dining in the grand hotels
Several of the city's best tables are inside these hotels, and you do not need to stay to eat there. Adaa at Taj Falaknuma recreates the Nizams' recipes in the palace itself; non-guests get in only with a reservation, for a restaurant or for the heritage walk with high tea, and should dress smartly, as the gate turns away walk-ins. Firdaus at Taj Krishna serves Hyderabadi classics. More in fine dining in Hyderabad.
Other styles at the top end
The Park, near Hussain Sagar, is a five-star design hotel with commissioned art, a perforated metal facade and a poolside bar that draws a local crowd at sunset: energy rather than palace hush. For the Taj name in a quieter garden setting, Taj Deccan in Banjara Hills sits a step below Taj Krishna. For smaller places with character, see boutique hotels.
