Hostels and budget hotels in Hyderabad
Hyderabad's traveller hostels sit in the HITEC City and Madhapur tech belt, near the cafés and the metro and far from Charminar. The India GO budget list has three places: Zostel, The Hosteller and Ginger. None of them is in the Old City or by Golconda, so choose the side of the city first, then the bed.

Traveller hostels, not PGs
Search for hostels in Hyderabad and most results are monthly PG (paying guest) rooms for students and office workers, priced by the month. For a few nights as a traveller you want a backpacker hostel with dorms, lockers and a common room, and in Hyderabad those cluster in Madhapur and HITEC City.
Budget places to stay
All three are in the India GO budget list; booking links are in the list above.
Zostel Hyderabad (Madhapur)
A Zostel chain hostel in Madhapur, in the Cyberabad tech belt, close to the cafés and the metro rather than the Old City. It has a common room with games and a rooftop used for evening events such as comedy and pottery nights. The pick for solo travellers who want company.
The Hosteller, HITEC City (Jubilee Enclave)
A tidy, almost hotel-like chain hostel within walking reach of HITEC City's cafés, malls and metro. Air-conditioned dorms with blackout curtains and lockers, female-only dorms, en-suite private rooms, a rooftop lounge and power backup, which matters in the summer.
Ginger Hyderabad
A hotel of IHCL's Ginger brand (the Tata group company behind Taj), which IHCL itself positions as lean luxe midscale; it is the dearest of the three. Compact modern rooms, a gym and the brand's Qmin restaurant. This one is in Genome Valley, the life sciences corridor well north of the centre; there is also a Ginger on Airport Road. Choose it only if your plans pull you to that side of the city.
Which side of the city
HITEC City and Madhapur: the hostels, the cafés and the Blue Line metro, but a long way from the Old City. Good for a short stay built around evenings out and the tech district.
Abids, Nampally and Koti (central Hyderabad): closer to the Old City, and the Green Line ends at MGBS, the nearest the metro gets to it. India GO has no budget-category hotel here. The Taj Mahal Hotel in Abids, an independent 1948 heritage hotel, is listed among boutique hotels, not budget ones.
Secunderabad: the main railway junction; handy in transit.
Golconda (Ibrahimbagh): quiet and close to the fort, but far from everything else. The Telangana Tourism resort at Taramati Baradari is a heritage stay in the boutique list, not a budget hotel.

Before you book
Hyderabad summers are hot, with average daytime highs of about 35–40°C from April to June, so air-conditioning and power backup are worth checking in a cheap room. Women travelling alone can ask for a female-only dorm, which The Hosteller offers. For general safety advice see is India safe.
FAQ
Which hostel is best in Hyderabad for travellers?
Zostel in Madhapur for a social crowd and a rooftop, The Hosteller in HITEC City for a tidier, hotel-like stay with female-only dorms. Both are in the tech belt near the metro.
What are some cheap places to stay near Charminar?
None of the budget picks is near Charminar: the hostels and Ginger are far out. The nearest hotel India GO lists is the Taj Mahal Hotel in Abids, a 1948 heritage hotel with simple rooms, but it is in the boutique list, not the budget one.
Which is cheaper, PG or hostel?
PGs are monthly rooms for students and workers, so they suit long stays only. For a few nights a backpacker hostel dorm is the practical choice.
Is there budget accommodation near Golconda Fort?
Not in the budget list. Near the fort there is Haritha Taramati Baradari Resort, run by Telangana Tourism, with 28 modest rooms; India GO lists it as a heritage boutique stay, not a budget hotel.
