Evolve Back, Hampi: inside the story
Formerly Orange County, built to echo the palaces of the Vijayanagara zenana enclosure: courtyards, palace suites and private-pool villas in woodland near Kamalapura, close to the Royal Centre and the museum. A riverside pool, an Ayurvedic spa, storytelling evenings and guided heritage and nature trails. The one to choose if the ruins are the reason for the trip.
WelcomHeritage Shivavilas Palace: a real palace
A domed palace near Sandur that belonged to the Ghorpade rulers of Sandur, carefully restored with jali screens, high ceilings and carved pillars and doors. About a dozen rooms, a library, spa and pool: grandeur on a small scale. It sits well outside Hampi, so the ruins become day trips by car.
Hyatt Place Hampi: modern and predictable
A contemporary chain hotel in the JSW Vidyanagar township, about 35 km from the monuments. 115 rooms, some with plunge pools, an outdoor pool, a gym, a children's play area and an all-day cafe with a bar. A fit for families and anyone who values brand reliability over local character.
Upscale without five stars
Some of the most memorable stays around Hampi are not in the luxury bracket at all.
Heritage Resort Hampi: 40 villas in Vijayanagara style, some with jacuzzi or private pool, on about eight acres of gardens with an organic plantation, around 6 km from the ruins; pool, spa, dance evenings and birdwatching.

How to choose
Questions worth answering before you book.
- How much time at the ruins? — The monuments are best at dawn and late afternoon. Near Kamalapura you can be at the Royal Centre at first light; from Vidyanagar or Sandur every visit starts with a drive.
- Arriving by air? — Vidyanagar airport (VDY) is only 32–40 km from Hampi but has very few flights, and they come and go; Hubballi is 145 km and about 3–3.5 hours by taxi.
- Travelling during Hampi Utsav? — 3–5 November 2026 (expected). The dates are announced late: book as soon as they appear.
- Heat — From March, a pool and a long midday rest are part of the plan, which favours resorts over guesthouses.
