Mysore to Bangalore
~2 h
Mysore and Bangalore are about 140 km apart, and the train is the simplest link between them: about two hours on the fastest services, from about ₹80 in second class. KSRTC buses run all day, and a taxi takes the expressway in 2.5–3 hours. In this direction the real question is where in Bangalore you need to end up: the city is big, and the last few kilometres can take as long as the trip itself.

The train is the default. Mysuru Junction sends about a dozen trains a day towards Bangalore, from the Vande Bharat (chair car, about ₹480–660 on this stretch) down to a second-class seat for about ₹80 (approx., August 2026). The fastest, the Vande Bharat and the Shatabdi, take about two hours. Both Vande Bharats on this line run on to Chennai and stop at KSR Bengaluru City, the central station by Majestic; each skips one day of the week, so check the day before building a plan around it.
The KSRTC bus (Karnataka's state bus company) is the fallback when the train is full: buses run through the day, from ordinary ones to Volvo AC coaches, and need no planning. Count on about three hours once Bangalore's traffic is included.
A taxi with a driver costs about ₹2,500–3,500 and takes 2.5–3 hours door to door. The expressway itself, a tolled 118 km road opened in March 2023, is quick; the drive into central Bangalore is what adds up to an hour on a bad day. It pays off with luggage, with a family, or with a stop on the way: Srirangapatna, the island town on the Kaveri, lies on this road just outside Mysore.
✅ Arriving in Bangalore
Bangalore has three main stations, and they are far apart. Check which one your ticket names before you book onward transport.
- Know your station — KSR Bengaluru City is in the centre, next to Majestic; Yeshvantpur is in the north and SMVT in the east.
- From Majestic, take the metro — The Purple and Green lines meet at Majestic, and the metro is the only way to ignore the traffic: about ₹10–90 a ride. A QR ticket comes from the metro app or straight through WhatsApp. More on the metro page.
- Book autos through an app — Mysore rickshaws run on the meter; Bangalore ones rarely do. Book in an app and the price is fixed before you sit down. Namma Yatri takes no commission from drivers and is usually the cheapest, from about ₹36 for 2 km.
- Heading straight to the airport — Kempegowda International (BLR) is far to the north of the city, on the opposite side from Mysore. From Majestic the KIA-8 Vayu Vajra bus leaves every 15–30 minutes and takes 1–2 hours (about ₹150–380 across the airport routes). For a flight, leave 2.5–3 hours for the airport run from the centre. More on the airport page.
During Dasara, book the way back first
Mysuru Dasara runs from 11 to 21 October in 2026, ending with the procession on the 21st; in 2027 it is expected from 30 September to 9 October. Over the festival transport and hotels are booked solid and prices roughly double, and the crowd leaves Mysore in one wave after the procession. Book the return train as soon as reservations open, 60 days ahead. In 2025 South Western Railway also ran an unreserved special leaving Mysuru at 22:55 after the parade and reaching Bangalore at 03:30; such specials are announced year by year. More on Mysuru Dasara.
