By train: two Vande Bharats, one station

Both Vande Bharat trains between Chennai Central and Mysuru stop at KSR Bengaluru City (Majestic), not at SMVT, so you arrive in the middle of the city.

  • 20607, the morning train. Running since November 2022, six days a week, not on Wednesdays. In the official NTES timetable (checked in October 2026) it leaves Chennai Central at 05:50, stops at Katpadi and reaches KSR Bengaluru at 10:00, about 4 h 10 min.
  • 20664, the evening train. Running since March 2024 and through to Mysuru since April 2024. In NTES it leaves Chennai Central at 17:00 and reaches KSR Bengaluru at 21:25, after stops at Katpadi and Krishnarajapuram. Since 30 July 2024 its day off is Thursday, not Wednesday.

Timetables change, so treat the clock times as a guide and check them on IRCTC or NTES before you book. The chair car costs about ₹840 (approx., August 2026); the executive chair car costs more.

Other expresses also run on the line, and Bengaluru has three main stations: KSR Bengaluru City in the centre, Yeshvantpur to the north and SMVT to the east. Read the station on your ticket before you plan the ride from it.

Three ways to make the trip

Vande Bharat

4 to 4.5 hours, about ₹840 in the chair car (August 2026). The fastest option over land, arriving at the central station.

Overnight sleeper bus

The cheap way in from Chennai: board in the evening, wake up in Bengaluru.

Flight

Kempegowda (BLR) has direct flights from all major Indian cities, but it sits 40 km north of the centre and the ride into town takes one to two hours.

Arriving in Bengaluru

From KSR Bengaluru City you are next to Majestic, where the Purple and Green metro lines cross. The metro is the one way to ignore Bengaluru traffic, and a QR ticket can be bought in the metro app or through WhatsApp.

For an auto-rickshaw, book through an app: drivers rarely use the meter, and Namma Yatri, which takes no commission from drivers, is usually the cheapest, from about ₹36 for 2 km. Cabs start at about ₹150 across the centre.

If you fly in, Vayu Vajra airport coaches run around the clock on 21 routes for ~₹150–380; the KIA-8 links Majestic and the airport every 15–30 minutes. A prepaid taxi or an app cab costs ~₹800–1,600. On the way back, leave 2.5–3 hours for the road to the airport. All prices are approximate, as of August 2026.

Going on to Mysuru

Both Vande Bharats continue from KSR Bengaluru to Mysuru, roughly another two hours. If Mysuru is your goal, see Chennai to Mysore.
