Getting there

Chennai to Mysuru: the through Vande Bharat, via Bengaluru or by air

Yes, there is a Vande Bharat from Chennai to Mysuru, and in fact there are two. Train 20607 leaves Chennai Central in the morning (05:50, arriving 12:20) and train 20664 in the evening (17:00, arriving 23:30), per the official NTES timetable checked in October 2026. Both go through Bengaluru without a change. The alternatives are a train to Bengaluru plus a two-hour hop to Mysuru, or a small IndiGo turboprop into Mysore airport.

The evening train reaches Mysuru close to midnight. If you take it, have the hotel and the ride from the station arranged before you board.

Via Bengaluru: more departures

If the Vande Bharat is full or the day is wrong, go to Bengaluru by any train (4 to 4.5 hours on the Vande Bharat, ~₹840 in August 2026) and continue from there. Bengaluru to Mysuru has plenty of choice (prices approx., August 2026):

Train

A dozen trains a day, about 1 h 40 min to 2 h 15 min, from ~₹80 in second class up to the Vande Bharat chair car at ~₹480–660.

KSRTC coach

Every 15–30 minutes from Kempegowda Bus Station, ~2–2.5 hours, ~₹183–664 by class. No booking needed.

Taxi on the expressway

~₹2,500–3,500 with a driver, 2.5–3 hours door to door. Leaving central Bengaluru can add an hour on a bad day.

By air to Mysore airport

Mysore airport (MYQ), about 10 km from the city, is small but working: IndiGo turboprops to Chennai and Hyderabad, around fourteen flights a week in total, with Chennai served a few times a week (our data, August 2026; check the current IndiGo schedule). Everything else flies to Bengaluru, 170 km away.

✅ Before you go

  • Dasara. In September–October transport and hotels in Mysuru are booked solid and prices roughly double. In 2026 the festival runs 11–21 October: see Mysuru Dasara.
  • Station to palace. Mysuru Junction is a short rickshaw ride from the palace.
  • Ask for the meter. Mysuru rickshaws really do use it, so a flat price offered up front is almost always higher than the meter.
