How to get around Mussoorie

← Mussoorie

Mall Road on foot

The town is a single long street along the ridge, and in the evening it belongs entirely to pedestrians. Distances are short; the effort is all in the gradient.

free

Hand-pulled cycle rickshaws

The only wheels allowed on the Mall in the evening. Fares are set by the municipality, so there is nothing to argue about; say where you are going and get in.

~₹20–50

Gun Hill ropeway

Four hundred metres up to the viewpoint over the Doon valley, running roughly 10:00 to 18:00. The path alongside takes 20–30 minutes if you would rather walk it.

~₹220 return

Union taxis by fixed tariff

The taxi union publishes a price list, so the rate is the rate. They are the way to Kempty Falls and Landour, and they stop working the Mall after four in the afternoon.

~₹1,000 for a car around the town's viewpoints, ~₹50 more at night

There are no autorickshaws in town at all, and from about 16:30 to 22:30 Mall Road is closed to vehicles: the evening is walking only.
