The Stone Chariot

← Hampi

Vijayanagara's crowning temple: the chariot, the musical pillars, the Tungabhadra path.

Vijayanagara's crown: the Vittala temple with its stone chariot (the one on the fifty-rupee note) and pillars that once played like an orchestra. The Tungabhadra path past the King's Balance and the thousand columns is Hampi's finest walk. A buggy runs from the gate, but walking is half the point.
