Indian food
Puttu & kadala curry
Also called: Puttu & kadala curry, Путту с кадала-карри, Puttu, Kadala puttu
Rice flour and grated coconut steamed in a bamboo or brass tube until it slides out as a warm cylinder, eaten with black chickpeas in a dark coconut gravy. Kerala's breakfast, and the reason a Malayali kitchen owns a puttu kutti.
How it's eaten
Break the cylinder into the curry with your fingers; it is meant to crumble, not to be sliced.
