Serendipity Arts Festival: a week of art in Panaji
A week when the old halls of Panjim fill with art and the river breeze
Serendipity Arts Festival is one of India's largest multidisciplinary arts festivals, staged each December in the Portuguese-era buildings and riverfront of Panaji, Goa. The 2026 edition, the eleventh, runs from 13 to 20 December. Most of it is free once you register on the festival website; only selected concerts, performances and workshops are ticketed.
The Serendipity Arts Foundation announces each edition's dates with its curators, usually between April and June.
Where to celebrate
What the festival is like
For a week Panjim, as Goa's capital is also called, turns into a walkable art district. Exhibitions fill old customs warehouses and heritage halls, music and theatre move onto open-air stages by the Mandovi, and craft and culinary programmes run alongside. You walk between venues along the river in the December evening breeze, past the jetties and the lit facades, and a day easily slips by without a plan.
Venues change a little with each edition, but recent ones have included the Old GMC complex, Adil Shah Palace, Kala Academy, Azad Maidan, the riverfront jetties and the Miramar promenade. In 2025 the exhibitions were open roughly 11:00–19:00; evenings belong to the performances. The middle weekend is the busiest.
✅ Registration and tickets
- Register first — Most of the festival is free, but entry needs registration on the festival website. Do it before you arrive.
- Ticketed events — Selected concerts, performances and workshops are ticketed (₹99–4,999 in 2025) and the popular ones sell out. Book as soon as the programme is published.
- Free outdoors — The open-air venues on the riverfront, at Azad Maidan and on the Miramar promenade need no ticket.
Where to stay and what to book
Stay in Panaji or Fontainhas, the old Latin quarter, and almost every venue is a walk away. Mid-December is already high season in Goa, so book flights early and rooms about three months ahead; arrive a day before you want to start. Two nights cover the middle weekend, four let you see most venues. For the city itself, see [Goa](/en/goa/) and [Serendipity Arts Festival in Goa](/en/festivals/serendipity-arts-festival/goa/).
Pair it with
Goa Liberation Day falls on 19 December, inside the festival week, and an evening walk through Fontainhas fits between venues.
