Hanuman temples in Delhi
हनुमान्
In Delhi you see Hanuman before you reach his temple. At Jhandewalan a 108-foot statue rises over Karol Bagh and is visible from the metro; at Chhatarpur a giant Hanuman stands over the gate of a goddess temple on the city's southern edge. Both are free. Jhandewalan is at its busiest on Tuesdays and Saturdays, the days devotees keep for Hanuman.
Hanuman
The monkey god of strength, loyalty and fearlessness. Servant of Rama, protector from trouble.

Two giants, two different temples
Jhandewalan: Hanuman's own temple
Jhandewalan Hanuman Temple in Karol Bagh is built around a saffron-and-red Hanuman 108 feet (33 m) tall, one hand pressed to his chest to show Rama and Sita inside it, the classic image of his devotion. You walk in through a demon's open mouth, with stairs leading up inside; there are also shrines to Rama and the goddess Durga. It is loud, bright and modern, run by devotees, with no published timetable.
Chhatarpur: Hanuman at the goddess's gate
Chhatarpur Temple (Shri Adya Katyayani Shaktipeeth) belongs to the goddess Katyayani, a form of Durga: a temple town of shrines spread over 70 acres, which Baba Sant Nagpal began building in the mid-1970s, according to the temple's site. A giant Hanuman stands over the gate (101 feet by India GO data; the temple does not publish the height). Entry is free; there are no checked opening hours. The Yellow Line metro puts it a short hop from the Qutub Minar area.
When to go
Tuesday and Saturday are Hanuman's days, when Jhandewalan is at its fullest; any other weekday is calmer.
Navratri changes Chhatarpur completely. The main Katyayani sanctum opens fully only during the two Navratri festivals, when more than a million people come through. The autumn Navratri is close: by the India GO calendar it runs about 11–19 October 2026 (projected); Dussehra is on 20 October. If you want the giant Hanuman without the crowd, come before or after.
Hanuman Jayanti, his birthday, falls on 20 April 2027 in north India. In Delhi it is a day to join if you are already in town rather than to plan a trip around; see Hanuman Jayanti in Delhi.
