Boutique and heritage hotels in Chandigarh
Chandigarh is a young city, so its heritage hotels are just outside it: an old Rajput fort and a heritage homestay on the Panchkula edge of the tricity. In the city itself, character means design and history of a newer kind: a hotel styled after Le Corbusier in Sector 17 and the government-run Mountview, a landmark below the Shivaliks. The four are listed above; here is how they differ and what to weigh before booking.

Heritage stays on the Panchkula side
Both are outside the city grid, on the Haryana side of the tricity, so plan on a car or an app taxi for sightseeing.
WelcomHeritage Ramgarh
An old fort linked to the Chandel Rajputs who ruled Ramgarh, now run as a heritage hotel by the WelcomHeritage group; sources date it to the 17th or 18th century. The hotel's own site describes Rajput-era architecture with mirror work and painted motifs, an indoor-outdoor restaurant, Diwan Khana, and a pool. For travellers who would take history over a modern tower.
Bhanu Mahal
Listed as a heritage homestay in Village Bhanu near Sector 28, Panchkula, on the rural edge of the tricity. It is a small, family-run place with no official website of its own, so confirm meals and facilities with the hosts when booking. The most personal option of the four, best with a car.
In the city: design and a landmark
Both are inside the grid, close to the Rose Garden and the centre.
Hyatt Centric Sector 17
Hyatt's lifestyle brand built its Chandigarh hotel around the city's identity: by Hyatt's own description, the façade and the interiors draw on Le Corbusier's style. It is in Sector 17, so the plaza, the Rose Garden and the shops are a walk away, which makes it a good base for exploring on foot. More character than a standard business five-star.
Hotel Mountview (CITCO)
Run by CITCO, the territory's tourism corporation, and described by it as an icon of the City Beautiful for many decades. It stands on a 6.5-acre site with lawns in leafy Sector 10, with the Shivalik hills behind, about 1.5 km from the Rose Garden and 2.5 km from the Rock Garden. The 145 rooms and 10 suites are individually decorated, and there is an outdoor pool and a spa. Grand in an official, old-school way rather than boutique-chic.
Other stays with a story
The Oberoi Sukhvilas in New Chandigarh is a luxury spa resort of villas and tents at the edge of the Siswan forest, chosen for quiet and Ayurvedic treatments rather than for the city; it is covered on the luxury hotels page. Hotel Aroma on Himalaya Marg in Sector 22 was the new city's first commercial building, opened in 1953; it is known above all for its restaurant and house ice cream, and its own site lists rooms. For a plain, central and honestly priced government option, CITCO also runs Hotel Shivalikview in Sector 17 and Hotel Parkview in Sector 24.
Before you book
For areas and budgets see where to stay in Chandigarh.
- Decide: centre or edge — Sectors 17 and 22 are the main hotel hub, with the plaza, markets and cafes within walking distance. The fort and the homestay trade that for space and quiet, at the price of a drive for every outing.
- No hotels at the sights — The Capitol Complex is a government quarter, and the Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake are a half-day visit rather than a base: stay in the sectors nearby.
- Late evenings — CTU buses stop around 22:00 and there is no night transport, so from an out-of-town hotel plan dinner and the way back around an app taxi.
- Festival weeks — Lohri (13 January 2027, expected) loads the Delhi–Chandigarh trains more than the hotels: about two weeks ahead is enough for a room, three for the train. Around Vaisakhi two weeks is usually enough too.
