How to get around bangalore

← Bengaluru

Namma Metro: three lines

The only way to ignore the traffic. Purple runs Whitefield to Challaghatta through MG Road and Majestic, Green crosses it north to south, Yellow reaches Electronic City.

~₹10–90

Auto-rickshaws through an app

Drivers rarely use the meter, so book through an app and the price is settled before you sit down. Namma Yatri charges the driver no commission and is usually the cheapest.

from ~₹36 for 2 km

Cabs

Worth it with luggage or after dark; in rush hour the metro still wins on the same route.

from ~₹150 across the centre

BMTC city buses

Dense and cheap, but the routes take some learning; the Tummoc and BMTC apps show them live.

from ~₹6, AC Vajra from ~₹10

Scooter and e-bike rental

Fine for a confident rider on a quiet Sunday, punishing on a weekday: the traffic here is the city's own sport.

from ~₹300 a day

Traffic is the one thing that plans your day here: leave 2.5–3 hours for the airport run.
