Luxury hotels in Ajmer

← Ajmer

Ajmer has one hotel at true five-star level, Pratap Mahal of the Taj group's IHCL SeleQtions collection, on the road between Ajmer and Pushkar. The Merwara Palace above Ana Sagar and The Fern Residency in the centre complete the top tier, and a handful of heritage hotels on the lake sit just below. In a pilgrimage city, location decides more than stars.

The three top-tier hotels

Ajmer is a pilgrimage city, and most of its rooms are simple ones near the shrine. The upper end is short: these are the three hotels the India GO list puts there, each in a different part of town.

Pratap Mahal, IHCL SeleQtions: the five-star option

The most polished luxury address in the Ajmer–Pushkar corridor, part of the Taj group's IHCL SeleQtions collection. Haveli-style Rajasthani architecture in white marble, a Baradari pavilion and a lily pond; 88 rooms and suites, many with private balconies and traditional swings. It has the facilities the old-town hotels lack: spa, pool, sauna and steam, the Aravali restaurant and the Mahua bar. It stands on the Pushkar Bypass Road, between the two towns, so it works as a base for both the Dargah and Pushkar's temples, but neither is a walk away.

The Merwara Palace: on the lake

A heritage-style hotel above Ana Sagar Lake and the Mughal gardens, with large rooms behind a front of Rajasthani arches, marble and chandeliers. It has a spa, a multi-cuisine restaurant, a pool and a 400-seat banquet hall over the water, which makes it a wedding venue as well as a hotel. Ask for a lake-facing room: the view of the lake and the Aravalli hills is the reason to stay here.

The Fern Residency: in the centre

A four-star hotel of The Fern chain, close to the railway and bus stations and about 3 km from the Dargah, with Ana Sagar a short drive away. It has 31 rooms and suites and the Laziz restaurant. This is the practical choice: modern comfort in the middle of the city rather than heritage character.

Where to be: shrine, lake or Pushkar road

The choice in Ajmer is less about stars than about location. Near the station and the Dargah you are a walk or a short ride from the shrine and the old bazaars, and The Fern is the upper-tier hotel here. On Ana Sagar the evenings are quieter and the views are the point: The Merwara Palace, and the heritage hotels below. On the Pushkar road Pratap Mahal sits between the two towns, which suits a trip that covers both. One more option is on the Kishangarh road: the Ramada by Wyndham, a mid-range international chain hotel with a pool and spa, on the airport side of town and a drive from the shrine.

Heritage alternatives

If character matters more than a full five-star service list, Ajmer's period hotels are a short step down. Hotel Merwara Estate, on Daulat Bagh Road by Ana Sagar, is a period property with marble floors, antique chandeliers and a pool; its Heritage rooms facing the lake have the most period detail. Mansingh Palace, a short walk from Ana Sagar, is built as a replica of an 18th-century fortress and is a dependable three-star rather than a palace; many of its 60 rooms have bay windows over the lake. Vijai Mahal is a small homestay in a colonial-era house about 3 km from the station, with a garden and a terrace. More are on boutique hotels in Ajmer.

Booking for the Urs

During the Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (11–16 December 2026, expected) the whole city fills for the week. Rooms near the Dargah are booked months ahead, while the exact dates firm up only a few weeks before, because the start depends on the moon: book early and keep a day in hand. Pushkar, 15 km over the hill, is the usual overflow and a pleasant base; see Pushkar.
