Varanasi parikrama

Panchakroshi Parikrama

A parikrama is a walk around something holy, keeping it on your right. Here the 'something' is the whole sacred territory of Kashi: instead of circling one temple, pilgrims walk a loop of roughly 88 km around the entire city, marking out its spiritual boundary. It is a five-day village walk, not a city sightseeing route.

Walked at any time of year, but traditionally in the cooler months. Pilgrims cover it in five days, sleeping at the five traditional halting points.
