Varanasi's main shrine and one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. A must-visit, but you need to understand the reality.

Important to know:

• Queues are enormous (sometimes 1–2 hours)
• Phones, cameras, and any electronic devices are forbidden; there's a separate storage room
• Strict security system: gates, checks, metal detectors
• Priests (pandits) actively ask for donations: you're not obligated to pay if you don't want to

Best time to visit:

Early morning (before 7:00) or late evening, with fewer people and cooler air.
