How to reach Varanasi

← Varanasi

Lal Bahadur Shastri airport (VNS)

Babatpur sits 25 km out and the road takes longer than the distance suggests. Flights come from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kathmandu.

Best option

Varanasi Junction (Cantt)

The main station, with Banaras and Kashi as smaller alternatives inside the city. An overnight train from Delhi is still the classic way in.

Bus from the neighbours

Only worth it over short distances: Delhi is 800 km away and the bus makes no sense. Lucknow, Prayagraj and Bodh Gaya are another matter.

The old city is walk-only: cars are stopped 1–1.5 km from the ghats and your luggage goes the rest of the way with you.
