By train: the Kacheguda–Yesvantpur Vande Bharat

Train 20703 leaves Kacheguda, not Secunderabad, and arrives at Yesvantpur in the north of Bengaluru, not at the central KSR station. It started in September 2023 and runs six days a week, not on Wednesdays; 20704 is the return train.

In the official NTES timetable (checked in October 2026) it leaves Kacheguda at 05:45 and reaches Yesvantpur at 14:00, about 8 h 15 min, stopping at Mahbubnagar, Kurnool City, Anantapur, Dharmavaram and Hindupur. The return 20704 leaves Yesvantpur at 14:45 and reaches Kacheguda at 23:00. At its 2023 launch South Central Railway put the journey at 8 h 30 min, 2 h 50 min faster than the quickest train before it. Times change, so check them on IRCTC or NTES before you book.

At launch the train had eight coaches: seven AC chair cars and one executive chair car. The 2023 chair car fare was ₹1,255 without meals and ₹1,600 with them; in August 2026 the chair car cost about ₹1,300–1,600 (approx.).

Hyderabad's three stations are far apart: Secunderabad Junction is the main one, Hyderabad Deccan (Nampally) is closest to the old city, and Kacheguda serves the southern routes. Leave time to reach the right one.

Overnight sleeper bus

The Bengaluru run is one of the busiest bus corridors in the country: hundreds of departures a night, so a seat turns up even on the day of travel. TGSRTC runs its Garuda Plus coaches, and private operators run sleepers. Expect 8–10 hours and ~₹456–1,544 depending on the class (approx., August 2026).

The bus saves a hotel night and arrives in the morning; the train runs by day and needs no night on the road.

By air: count the airport roads

Bengaluru's Kempegowda airport (BLR) has direct flights from all major Indian cities. The flight itself is short, but both airports are far from town.

  • Hyderabad (HYD) is in Shamshabad, about 30 km south of the city, with no metro. TGSRTC Pushpak coaches cost ~₹100–300 and run through the night; an Uber, Ola or Rapido is ~₹600–900. Either way, 45–75 minutes.
  • Bengaluru (BLR) is 40 km north of the centre. Vayu Vajra coaches run around the clock for ~₹150–380; a taxi is ~₹800–1,600. Allow one to two hours. Prices are approximate, as of August 2026.

Arriving at Yesvantpur

Yesvantpur is in the north of Bengaluru, not the centre. For an auto, book through an app: Namma Yatri takes no commission from drivers and is usually the cheapest, from about ₹36 for 2 km (August 2026). Bengaluru traffic decides how long the last stretch takes.
