Gita Bhawan

A pilgrim town inside the town: a riverside complex of around a thousand rooms, offered to pilgrims on donation and run by the Gita Press family. What draws people who are not staying is the painting: halls and outer walls carry scenes and verses from the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and the Bhagavad Gita, so the whole compound reads as an open-air gallery of epic art, free to walk through. The Gita Press book depot inside sells scriptures in many languages at subsidised prices. Come at morning or evening satsang, the shared session of chanting and reading, when the halls fill with voices.
