Bhootnath Temple
Ten or fifteen minutes of steep steps keep this one nearly empty, which is most of the reason to climb. Bhootnath rises in stages up a forested hillside above Lakshman Jhula, each level with its own shrines, dedicated to Shiva as Bhootnath, lord of spirits. The story has him arriving at his own wedding with a procession of ghosts. The rooftop terrace opens onto both suspension bridges and the Ganga bending through the valley, arguably the best free viewpoint in town. Quiet even in high season, and at its finest towards sunset. Shoes off at the shrines.
The best free balcony over both bridges, and hardly anyone makes the climb
