Savitri Mata Temple & Ropeway

← Pushkar

AreaRatnagiri Hill, southwest of Pushkar Lake

The hill above the lake belongs to Savitri, Brahma's first wife, who by legend cursed him here after he married Gayatri to complete his yagna. This is the other half of the story told in the town below. A six-minute ropeway covers the 720 metres up (Rs 195 return, Rs 150 for children aged 3–10, Rs 120 one way), or a stepped path takes about an hour of steady climbing. From the summit the lake, the white town and the dunes beyond lay out in a single view. Cars run weather permitting, and shoes come off at the shrine.

Six minutes of ropeway buys the widest view in town, and the calmest hour of the day
