Vetal Tekdi

The highest ground inside the city, around 800 m, named for the Vetal temple on top and laced with red-earth trails that start at Law College Road, Senapati Bapat Road, Kothrud and Pashan. This is not a sight at all - it is the morning institution of Pune, walked by joggers and birdwatchers who count peafowl, bee-eaters and raptors, past old quarry lakes, with the skyline visible in every direction. No vehicles beyond the gates and no entry fee. Come at sunrise or in the last hour of daylight, and carry water, because there is none up there.
