Pataleshwar Caves

← Pune

EntryFree

An 8th-century cave temple carved directly into the rock in the heart of the modern city. The complex is dedicated to Shiva and is a monolithic structure with columns, an inner hall, and a sanctuary.

Despite being near busy streets, inside it's quiet and cool. Entry is free, and there are usually few tourists. A good place for a short break and an introduction to the region's early rock architecture.
