Lohagad Fort
The Iron Fort, and one of the twelve inscribed on the UNESCO list in July 2025 as the Maratha Military Landscapes of India. The climb from Lohagadwadi is mostly stepped and forgiving, which is why families and first-time trekkers pick it; four gateways follow one another until the path opens onto Vinchu Kata, the fortified scorpion-tail spur with the Pawna valley laid out below. In the monsoon the ramparts go mossy green and mist drifts through the gates. Entry is free; wet basalt is slippery, so wear shoes with grip.
The gentlest fort walk near Pune, on the UNESCO list since July 2025
