Khadakwasla Dam

← Pune

AreaKhadakwasla (~15 km southwest)

The reservoir behind an 1863 dam, fifteen kilometres out on the Sinhagad road, with a lakeside promenade that Pune calls its Chowpatty for the rows of carts with roast bhutta corn, bhel and ice cream. What people come for is the sunset over the water with hills behind it, best seen from the eastern bank. There is no entry fee, swimming is not allowed, and the waterline is scruffy in places - this is a view-and-snacks stop rather than a resort. A weekday evening is a different place from a weekend one, and it works best as the wind-down after Sinhagad.
