Hong Kong Lane

A narrow lane between FC Road and JM Road at Deccan Gymkhana, stuffed with stalls of sunglasses, chunky jewellery, phone covers, bags, kurtas - the long tunics - and gifts of dubious necessity, mostly from a hundred rupees. It has been a rite of passage for Pune students since the 1980s, helped by its position beside Garden Vada Pav and the Deccan college crowd. Roughly 10 am to 7:30 pm, calmer on weekdays. Nobody comes here for refinement - the point is two hundred metres of noise, colour and cheap finds.
