Chaturshringi Temple
The city's guardian goddess lives up a flight of steps off Senapati Bapat Road, ninety feet above the traffic on the four-peaked hill that gives her the name Chaturshringi. The shrine is held to be more than three centuries old, founded after the goddess appeared to a Maratha-era merchant in a dream, with smaller shrines to Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati and Kali along the way up. During Navratri this becomes Pune's biggest goddess fair, closing on Dussehra with a silver chariot carried in procession. Open from early morning to evening; dress modestly and leave shoes below.
