Bhuleshwar Temple
A black basalt Shiva temple of the 13th century, Yadava-era, standing alone on a hillock off the Pune-Solapur highway about fifty kilometres east - and passed by almost everyone heading that way. The Hemadpanti-style mandapa, the pillared hall before the shrine, carries carving of unusual density: panels from the Mahabharata and Ramayana, musicians, and a rare depiction of Ganesha in female form. The dome-like additions outside belong to later, raid-wary centuries. Open roughly 6 am to 6 pm, about two hundred steps up, and mornings outside the month of Shravan and Mahashivratri are near-empty.
Deccan carving of the first rank, with almost nobody there to look at it
