Great Himalayan National Park
On the UNESCO list since 2014 for its alpine biodiversity, the park guards the headwaters of the Tirthan, Sainj, Jiwa and Parvati rivers, with Himalayan tahr, musk deer, brown bear and the western tragopan in its forests. Two gateways: Gushaini in the Tirthan valley, about 52 km from Kullu, and Neuli in the Sainj, both reached by turning off the Chandigarh-Manali highway at Aut. Permits and forest rest houses are booked through the park's own site; walks run from a day to about a week, and the core zone begins four or five kilometres past Gushaini. Plainly: it is three hours from Naggar, so plan a night in Tirthan rather than a day trip.
The only UNESCO natural site in these mountains, and a night in Tirthan rather than a day trip
