How to get around Mysore

← Mysore

Scooter from Royal Brothers

Mysore is the rare Indian city calm enough to ride in: flat, laid out on a grid and small. Chamundi Hill and the palace fit into one day easily.

from ~₹400 a day

Auto-rickshaws by the meter

The meters here are in regular use; just ask for one before you sit down instead of accepting a flat price.

~₹11 per km, minimum ~₹20–30

Uber, Ola and Rapido

All three work across town. Handy after dark and with luggage, though within the centre a metered rickshaw usually comes out cheaper.

KSRTC city buses

A dense network, and the one route worth knowing goes up Chamundi Hill: the climb by bus costs a fraction of a taxi.

Horse tonga by the palace

A loop around the palace quarter, and it is a ride rather than a way of getting anywhere. Prices climb during Dasara.

~₹300–400 for a loop

During Dasara in September–October transport and hotels are booked solid and prices roughly double, so plan the city ahead.
