Sharavathi Kandla Mangrove Boardwalk
A wooden walkway raised on posts runs about a kilometre and a half straight into the mangroves of the Sharavathi estuary, ending on a narrow deck out over an island in the middle of the forest. The planking puts you level with the tangle of roots instead of above it, and interpretation boards along the way name what you are standing in. The district built it as an eco-tourism project; entry is nominal, around twenty rupees. Come early for the birds and carry repellent. It sits opposite Kasarkod beach, twenty-two kilometres from Murudeshwar, so the two go together in one morning.
A kilometre and a half of raised plank through mangrove roots, best in the first light
