Netrani Island
A heart-shaped basalt island about nineteen kilometres offshore, ringed by one of the very few fringing coral reefs on India's west coast. Marine surveys logged dozens of reef species that were new records for Indian waters, and the state declared the reef a biodiversity heritage site in 2010. Landing is not permitted, since the navy uses the island as a firing range, so a visit means a boat out for snorkelling or a dive with a certified operator. The season runs roughly October to May, clearest from October to January; nothing goes out in the monsoon, and trips are cancelled whenever the coast guard closes the sea.
A protected reef you can only see from the water; the island itself is closed to landing
