Murudeshwar Temple & Shiva Statue

← Murudeshwar

AreaKanduka Hill, on the seafront

A hill with the Arabian Sea on three sides of it, and on top a silver-grey Shiva 123 feet high, widely cited as the second-tallest statue of Shiva anywhere. The twenty-storey Raja Gopura beside it has a lift, ten to twenty rupees, up to a floor where the figure and the whole coastline lay out below. Around the base, sculpture groups set out scenes such as the Gitopadesha and the sun chariot. Dress modestly; traditional dress is enforced for the inner sanctum. From Gokarna it is about 78 kilometres and an hour and a half to two hours, the classic full day on this coast.

A lift up twenty storeys of gate tower, and the statue and the coast laid out from the top
